A Dunedin entrepreneur has developed a new twist to an age-old activity that affects coupledom worldwide. The Shagvent Calendar, a play on the Christmas advent calendar, is a fun way to enhance couples’ sex lives.
Shagvent chief executive, Phil or the 'Shagmaster' as he now calls himself, says he came up with the idea of the Shagvent calendar at Christmas time 2005.
“My wife and I decided we would make our own Christmas presents for each other. The only stipulations were: a lot of thought and a value under $10.
“I was sitting at the kitchen table looking at my kids’ advent Calendars and thinking about what most red blooded males think about, the two came together in a flash of inspiration and the very first Shagvent Calendar was created!”
It’s simple. At the post-coital stage, a window on the Calendar is opened by one of the couple to reveal a prize. Phil says the trick is that the prize must be redeemed before any more sex, which makes it fun, rewarding and very motivating!
The Shagvent Calendar has received positive feedback from a wide variety of sources, including professionals working with couples. A Dunedin Clinical Psychologist, Stefany Frost, who has worked with couples for nearly 20 years, says: ‘The Shagvent Calendar is a fun, innovative way to add romance, intimacy and sexual energy to a relationship’.
She says ‘It gets couples thinking and talking about sex, but also encourages couples to engage in other acts of intimacy that enhance a relationship and ultimately put aside more time for themselves. It is based on the simple but essential truth of successful relationships, which is the mutual exchange of rewards.
She says “The Shagvent Calendar is equally valuable in a happy, committed couple as it is in a relationship with problems to sort out, there can be positive value for everyone”.
Phil says the Shagvent Calendar has been so successful there have been several complaints of partners rushing to get the shag over so they can see what the next prize is. Another reported his Sunday afternoon lawn mowing routine was interrupted when his wife wanted to get the next window open and dragged him into the bedroom.
